The Longleaf Pine Forest

With 27 acres of natural longleaf pine habitat, this forest is one of the last remaining in the city area.

After undergoing controlled burns in 2005 and 2006, the longleaf pine forest is currently regenerating.

In May 2007, naturalist Fred Nation and Dr. Harry Larsen, retired professor at Auburn University's School of Foresty, performed an evaluation of the 27-acre site. Included in this study is a Site Location and Description and an Inventory Summary. The summary includes a listing of the plants, which includes 49 vascular plant familys, 159 vascular plant species, 72 woody species, and 21 naturalized species.
