Volunteer Your Time
Whether it’s indoors or out, working with plants or working with people, it takes many hands to run the Gardens!
Come to help MBG grow and develop! You will learn more about plants for our area and the benefits of environmental stewardship,
We are always looking for volunteers to help on the grounds, in the office, or at events. if you have an interest in a particular area or group of plants, check out one of our groups and see our current needs in the posts below!
Let us know how you would like to help. Whether you can help once or twice a year, or every week for an hour or two, we would like to hear from you! Email us to volunteer – tell us what you would like to do!

If you’d like to learn more about the Gardens and share that knowledge with visitors, become a docent! Docents teach visiting groups of all ages about the Gardens and our unique environment. Let us know you are interested and we will contact you about scheduled training sessions.
Sometimes we need to Send In the Cavalry for gardening projects that need extra help. If you are not able to commit to a regular schedule, but would like to help out occasionally as your time permits, then let us know how to contact you. We will notify you of special projects and workdays so you can help when you can.
Amanda Wilkins, our Collections Curator, has set aside Saturday mornings from 9am to 12 noon to work with volunteers to tackle gardening projects, such as planting, weeding, trimming in many areas of the Gardens. Come out and join her when you can! Bring gardening gloves and pruners, and we will provide water and other tools that may be needed. Learn about the plants and new techniques while you help us grow!
A group of volunteers who meet on Tuesday mornings, 9am to noon, to care for and propagate plants for use in the Gardens and for Plant Sales. This in-house support contributes a large amount of plant material that helps raise money to support MBG.
If you would like to work indoors, then consider joining the most important arm of any organization – our Petal Pushers are the “Tea and Sandwiches Division.” They serve as hosts for events, prepare the food for volunteers during Plantasia set-up, and also help with tasks such as bulk mailing and binder assembly; all with grace and style, and often with cookies.
Whether you are an individual or a group looking for a worthwhile Community Service Project, we would love your help. We can help you decide on a good project that will suit your needs, and help the Gardens – from Plant Sale loading and unloading, or digging, or planting to building a bridge or a bench!

We rely on volunteers to help with our special events throughout the year. Plant Sales, Gallery of Gardens, Yard Sales, and much more. From moving plants to folding brochures, from distributing flyers to picking up supplies, we can find you a task!
The Gulf Coast Herb Society maintain our Herb Garden. If you are interested in volunteering to plant and maintain this area, you can find more information via their Facebook Page (link will open in new tab).
The largest percentage of our volunteer base have gone through the Master Gardeners course, a great way of learning more about gardening in our area.
